Our History

In 1983 a number of people began to study watercolour painting with Gerry Thompson, AFCA. Over time they became a close and supportive group, continuing to study each year with Gerry. When Gerry Thompson decided to move to Vancouver, the group continued to meet weekly. In 1989, about 25 of the group members continued to meet and the Fraser Valley Watermedia Society was born.

In 1991 the FVWS adopted the following mission statement: "The Fraser Valley Watermedia Society is dedicated to the enrichment, excellence, mutual support and encouragement of its members."

In 1993 the group was incorporated and registered in Victoria.

Who We Are

The Fraser Valley Watermedia Society, located in Abbotsford, B.C. Canada, is a long time member of the Abbotsford and Mission Arts Councils. We have been fortunate to have their support and encouragement. We generally have two or three guest artists presenting workshops, sometimes just for our members, or with members of other arts organizations and the public. Contact us if you would like to be on our email list to receive information about upcoming demos or workshops.

FVWS has monthly business meetings and meets weekly to paint and support each other in our painting endeavours. We have a major show of our work yearly, at the Clearbrook Library. We also exhibit at the Kariton Gallery and have exhibited at the Mission Art Centre, Chilliwack Cultural Centre, Langley Centennial Museum, Surrey Art Gallery and the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium.

Visit our Gallery for a sampling of Members' Artwork.
